Five Things Students and Parents Need to Hear

At every point of life, you can find a reason to say, “It is a hard to be a...”. In my humble opinion, the hardest thing to do is to be a teenager or be a parent of a teenager. Simply put, there is more technology, misinformation, comparison, and overall fear than I think any of us are comfortable with. If you are looking to bless and encourage a student or a parent, might I suggest using one of these 5 affirmations...

  1. You are loved
It seems like this is the most basic thing that you can do. While that might be true, love today is often validated by the amount of time someone is seen, heard, or interacted with. A lot of this happens in the digital space which means each of those are measured and people can actually assign value based off of likes comments, and overall interaction. Comparison is the thief of joy. Simply just tell someone how much you love them, face to face, and see the light that brings to their eyes.

  2. You’re doing more good than you know

This is something that LCU Bible Department has adopted when talking about their graduates. Life gets messy and we often time lose sight of the bigger picture. Remind someone that God put them where they for a purpose, and that they are essential to the cause for Christ.

  3. I hear you

And don’t try and fix the problem. Just listen. Most of the time God has us where we are to be a presence. We negate the power of the Spirit when we try and give life altering advice. Sit, listen, and pray. God will work out the rest.

  4. How can I pray for you?

We often times try to outthink the room. Don’t. God is living and active and wants to give us what we need. These requests can be so simple but where two or more are gathered, God is there and ready to move each of us to action.

  5. It is okay not to be okay

God gave us every emotion that we feel. We need to offer those things up to people we trust and to God. God can take our anger, sadness, anxiety, and pain. He is greater than anything that is in this world, and he has overcome the world.
